Are there any specific activities or self help tips on how to maintain a positive attitude when someone is facing old age and illness. My dad is 60 and may have to quit the only job he has ever had because he can no longer pass the physical exams. He had a triple bypass two years ago and ever since has had an extremely poor and defeated attitude. Now that he may be faced with losing his job because of his health he has gotten worse. He is not attentive and has began sluring when he talks, he just doesn’t seem like he is here with us or in tune with what’s going on around him. Are there any suggestions for how he can remain positive. He’s always been a very active person and recently he is not himself at all. It feels like he is giving up and I know that it is affecting his health.

I’m not 60 yet but I can see it from here. Yes I still love to eat what I have always loved but sometimes it doesn’t love me back. Exercise now consists of walking everyday and it really helps (and enjoyable too!) This getting older is not for the faint of heart!
My wife is 62 and she needs to read some of these fine suggestions. I follow some suggestions and could do better. Why don’t we older folks try to get some young 20 year olds to not make the same errors we have made? Do things the smart way, don’t be dumb and hard headed. I’ve found that listening first and talking later, works the best. Basically all we have to say is: “eat right and exercise”. What’s even better is to show the younger ones by our example. Inch by inch its a cinch. Take care.
